Performing Arts Programming
Since July 2017 I have worked as Programming & Community Engagement Coordinator at Overture Center for the Arts in Madison, WI. I manage three educational and community programs:
- International Festival: A once yearly cultural celebration that Overture has hosted since 1981, the festival celebrates the cultural diversity of Dane County. Over 30 performers and 40 vendors selected from the local area represent over 60 cultures annually. Spread throughout 6 venues within the building, the festival is free and open to the public, with an average of over 13,000 audience experiences each year. I am in charge of selecting and contracting performers and vendors, developing the schedule, coordinating with all internal departments for marketing, security, front of house and technical staff.
- OnStage Field Trip Performance Series: With over 30 performances a year for PreK through 12th grade students, this series brings over 30,000 students a year to Overture for cultural experiences connecting to curriculums across subjects. This inexpensive seats allow for school aged children from across southern Wisconsin to experience live performance in a state of the art facility. I promote the performances to educators, manage a resource guide writer, process all orders and develop and maintain relationships with teachers from public, private and homeschools throughout the area.
- Kids in the Rotunda: A free family performance series entertaining audiences since 1982, Kids in the Rotunda brings over 30,000 children and their families to Overture each season. Presenting music, dance, magic, juggling and more to children aged 2-10, the program ignites a passion for art in young minds and provides a welcoming, fun environment for family bonding time. I am in charge of selecting, contracting and managing performers. As the face of the program I also present the curtain speeches before each performance, run the Kids in the Rotunda Facebook page, and engage audiences at community events to promote brand awareness.
From June of 2015 - July of 2017 I worked as the Gallery Coordinator for Overture Galleries I, II & III at Overture Center. A forum for diverse artistic expression, Overture Galleries strives to exhibit work from both professional and developing artists, as well as local art organizations and community projects. As the primary contact for all exhibitors, I managed the exhibition process from the introductory meeting with the artists to the resulting installation, reception and special events.
After spending a year in my role for Overture Galleries, I lead a systems analysis of the gallery process and implemented a project management tool (Asana) to improve communication between stakeholders and streamline the exhibition planning process. This tool replaced an older paper system, and reduced redundancy and increased productivity. The poster to the right details this process.
